The following are recommended steps for replacing the fuser unit.
Recommendation:
1. Open the Front Cover.
2. Remove the Rear Cover, Fuser Cover, and DX tray.
3. Remove the Taptite bind B M4x12 screw and Fuser unit line Cover R.
4. Remove the Rear nip release link and close the Front Cover.
5. Remove Fuser unit line cover L.

6. Remove the fuser unit ground spring from the base plate.

NOTE: If this spring is lost or deformed, it will need to be replaced.

7. Disconnect the center and side thermistor harness and heater harness.
NOTE: Make sure to pull the thermistor harnesses straight from the eject sensor PCB by
bracing the PCB and unplugging. If removed at an angle the connectors could be damaged.
8. Remove the Taptite pan B M4x14 from the left side of the fuser and remove the fuser.
9. Install the new fuser unit.
10. Reconnect the fuser wire harness and thermistor harness.

NOTE: Make sure the thermistor and heater harnesses are seated properly. Otherwise they
may be pinched or damaged.
11. Place the Taptite pan B M4x14 back in the left side of the fuser. Attach the fuser unit
ground spring is reinstalled to both the fuser and the HVPS base plate.
12. Replace the Fuser unit line cover L using the Taptite pan B M4x14 screw.
NOTE: When placing the Fuser unit line cover L you may need to shift the fuser unit ground
spring slightly to the right to avoid deforming the spring.
13. Open the Front Cover.
14. Reinstall the Rear nip release link.

15. Reinstall the Fuser unit line Cover R and the Taptite bind B M4x12 screw.
NOTE: When reinstalling the Fuser unit line Cover R, place the lower portion with the nip in
where the fuser harness is resting first. Then rock the cover into position making sure the
hook on the left seats properly. (See Image 5)

16. Reinstall the fuser cover and rear paper guide.
17. When reinstalling the Rear Cover, place the rear cover extension underneath the
exposed portion of Rear nip release link. Then slide the left side of the cover onto the boss.
(See Image 6).

18. Follow the instructions below to reset the fuser life count.
a. Press the 3 and 9 keys on the key pad at the exact same time.
b. This will bring up a RESET MENU
c. Use the DOWN ARROW until FUSER is displayed.
d. Press OK to confirm. (On touch screen models select the Fuser button).
e. The display will read 1. Reset 2. Exit (models DCP8110DN, DCP8150DN, DCP8155DN, MFC8510DN, MFC8710DW, MFC8810DW, MFC8910DW)
The display will read Reset Fuser? YES NO (MFC8950DW, MFC8950DWT)
f. Choose 1/Yes.
g. The display will show accepted briefly and return to the main display.
h. Enter maintenance mode and print out a 77 report.
i. Confirm the Remaining Life of the fuser unit.
NOTE: Make sure to open the front cover to verify the Rear Nip was installed correctly. If you are unable to open the front cover fully, the Rear Nip was not installed correctly.
To resolve the issue, follow the steps in this section.
