Connecting the Power

To properly operate the forepumps, you must connect them to an efficient fume exhaust system. Most atmospheric pressure ionization (API) applications contribute to solvents accumulating in the forepump. Although Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends that you periodically open the gas ballast valve (on the side of the pump) to purge the accumulated solvents, opening the valve might allow a large volume of volatile solvent waste to enter the fume exhaust system. Choose an exhaust system that can accommodate the periodic purging of these solvents. The frequency of the purging depends on the throughput of the system—never operate the pump continuously with the gas ballast valve open.
